12V Solenoid Valve - 3/4"

The actual size of Valve is 1/2 inch. Inner diameter should be specified.

I had used it to control the flow in my drip irrigation system on my terrace . But unfortunately it exploded once I switched it on. I don’t know if I have done anything wrong. Does it need any voltage transformer or converter.? Is there any precautions I need to take. I had just connected it directly to a power point . Please advise.
